Welcome note from the Chairman

Dear Members,

I hope you are all keeping well. As some of you may have seen, we held our club AGM recently. Unfortunately, following public health advice, we had to hold this meeting remotely but hopefully this will be the last time we will have to do this. Many members joined us where we celebrated 2021 accomplishments and discussed the future plans for the Club. We also waved farewell to two very special people from the Committee who have given their time and energy to the club over the last few years. Joe Murray stepped down from the role of Chairman while Dawn Caldwell stepped down from the role of Captain. We are so grateful for all they have done for the club during this time.

On the night we elected four of the five Club Officers for 2022. I agreed to take on the role of Chairman, while Declan Forde agreed to take on the role of Vice Chairman. Declan and myself will be joined as Club Officers by Rosita Murphy who will be Club Captain this year and Ed O’Sullivan who will be Treasurer. We are currently working to fill the role of Club Secretary. Many of you in the Club will know Declan and Rosita already. Ed joined the Club last year and is playing tennis now regularly. My family have been members of the club for many years and I have recently started playing tennis myself again. I have been an active member of many tennis clubs around the world, including in London and New York and I am really looking forward to getting more involved with Bishopstown Lawn Tennis Club.

The remaining General Committee roles and various sub-committees for 2022 are already starting to take shape and there will be a follow up communication on this very shortly. As you know all Committee members are volunteers, giving their time free of charge to help run this Club and we would love more people to get involved. With everyone’s lives so busy these days it is great to see people willing to give a little and we will all try and do the best we can this year for you, our members. That’s all we can do really. Do get in touch with us if you would like to get involved. Also we would encourage you to get in touch too with any ideas you have for social events or general Club operations.

We have great plans in place for a very successful year. We would love to have more social events, more competitions, more trophies and of course, more laughs. I think we all need this right now. We can only do it together and as members we are all here because we love to play tennis. Let’s have a great year and help each other where we can to make sure this great club is Ace!

Let’s smash this year!

Niamh
